SYNOPSIS:
Elizabeth Lyons has one rule for herself: No Distractions.

No distractions basically translates into No Men; which definitely means HELL NO when it comes to Daniel Alexander.

After a chance meeting at a professional function Daniel is not interested in letting Elizabeth go. No matter how much Elizabeth tries to stay away from him, Daniel's not the kind of guy who lets something he wants walk out of his life. The question is, will she let him catch her or will her past fears ruin any chance of a future with him?

Sterling's State of the Union

HAHAHAHAHA!  I amuse myself with stupid things- you know, like the title of this post.

I'm about to get serious though, and my thoughts are super emotional and all over the place so I hope that by the time you get to the end, I'll have made some sort of sense.  Bear with me, cause it's a long one. :)

SOMETHING is happening in writer-land. Sales are down. Sales are down A WHOLE F'N LOT. Most of the writer's I know are not immune to what has been happening the past six or so months (longer for some of us, myself included). And while we all sit there struggling to figure out where things went wrong, what exactly happened and most importantly- HOW WE CAN FIX IT-  we are silently (or not so silently) freaking out.

Let me back up a little bit, first....
Getting fired from my last job was one of the best things that could have happened to me. I was in a horrible situation but I knew I'd never quit because well, who quits their job without having another one to fall back on? Not me. Even if what happened there on a daily basis was slowly killing me from the inside out- I wasn't going to be the one to give up. I needed a paycheck. And that's truly the bottom line. Because if I didn't need money to survive, I would have left that job a long time before they ever had the chance to make me leave. I. Would. Have. Quit. Happily.

After getting fired, I bought a laptop and started writing In Dreams. I self published it (after months of trying to get an agent and doing all the things I thought I was supposed to do to feel like a "real" writer) and it flopped. To be honest, the writing sucked. I was completely na├»ve and I jumped into this world with absolutely zero experience in it. All I knew was that I had a story I believed in that I wanted to tell.
And so I did exactly that.
But I didn't tell it well.
And after getting over that fact, I rewrote it a billion (and a half) times to the point where it no longer haunted me at night.  (thank you Pam)

Much to my surprise, after finishing In Dreams, I realized that I had another story I wanted to tell. Who knew, right?! I sure as shit didn't. But that's where it all began. I'd opened creative floodgates in my mind that I didn't even know existed! I found something inside of me that called to my soul.... something that felt more right in terms of a "career" than anything ever had before in my life. I KNEW, in the deepest parts of my guts, that THIS was what I wanted to do.

I wanted to be a writer.
I wanted to write books.
FOR A LIVING.

And the fact that my books didn't sell all that well did nothing to stop me. I didn't care. In my mind, I was paying my dues- working hard to build a fan base that would take time and effort. Not to mention the fact that I was trying to grow as a writer. I wanted to be better, write stories that people wanted to read, that they talked about, that they loved. I was fully aware that I was a work in progress, but you see, I was OKAY with that. Because I never expected overnight success. I never really expected anything.

Boy how that's changed.

I released my third book, The Perfect Game in October 2012 and my world completely shifted. The unemployment checks had stopped about six months earlier and I'd lost my house. Writing was absolutely not paying the bills, but I still wanted to do it. I didn't want to stop because there was this THING inside me-  this thing that refused to let me quit- even when most people on the outside probably thought I was delusional, or crazy, or both.  But you can't make someone on the outside know how your guts feel because they belong to you. What fuels you from the inside out is something that only you truly know. It's something you own... or more likely, that owns you.

The release of TPG was unreal and unlike anything I'd ever experienced up to that point. It was amazing. It was life changing. It was more than I could have ever hoped or dreamed for. And I loved it and wanted more of it. Sales were incredible and I actually thought for the first time since I started writing in 2010 that I could do this!  I could actually make a living working for myself and be my own boss.  What a blessing!  What an honor! Please don't ever let it stop!  :)

And things continued to be unbelievable throughout 2013.

And then 2014 arrived and took a big shit on most of us.

Writing is humbling. I was not prepared for how absolutely lonely and devastating this business could be. I've made incredible friends and met some amazingly strong and smart women since I started, but the truth of the matter is......   we often feel alone. I have never in my life felt more highs and more lows than since I started self-publishing. No matter how many other people can relate to the things you're saying or going through-  you still FEEL desperately alone in this business. Because the truth of the matter is, your book sales affect your life and your life only. And while others may understand that sales are down and can relate to it as well, it's still a very personal struggle and burden to bear.

My books are my business. It's all on MY shoulders to think of a story, to write it, to market it, to promote it, to envision things for it, to sell it, and to deal with every single aspect of it. So when I feel like it fails, there is no one to blame but myself. Writer's don't really take breaks- we're either writing, or thinking about writing, or feeling a guilt on par with mommy guilt for not writing. We don't get weekends or nights off and we don't get paid based on the number of hours we work. (Don't get me wrong- working for myself is one of the most fulfilling things I've ever accomplished. And you'll never hear me complain about how many hours I work, or how long, because I know I'm working this hard for me. I'm not working my ass off for someone who doesn't appreciate it, or who doesn't respect me and wants to replace me if they think I suck. I'm working this hard for my number one fan-  myself.  lol :) )

Almost every single day I hear an author talk about giving up. They question if it's all worth it because they don't feel like it is anymore. You see, when you go from consistently selling a certain # of copies of each one of your books, you start to assume/expect that you will always (at least) sell that # of copies. And when you don't sell even half that number, you think that there's something wrong with you. It's something you did. No matter how many other authors are telling you that the exact same thing is happening to them, you still blame yourself. Somehow, in this crazy fickle business, it has to be YOUR fault, right?

I also think that since the stories most of us tell have pieces of us in them, it's just so much more personal in every single way when things don't go like you expected them too. Or hoped that they would. Because deep down, when you hear other authors talking about how bad it is out there right now, you sort of hope that you'll be immune to it. You silently wish that maybe it was just that author's latest release and hope it won't be the truth for yours.

But then it is.

And you're suddenly thrust into a group you don't want to be a part of, but you're there nonetheless. And while it is slightly reassuring that it isn't "just you" and "your books," you still feel alone in the struggle. You still feel like shit. And you still wonder what you could have done better to make your outcome different. Because you don't want to be like everyone else. You don't want to be part of the group that's struggling. You want to be the exception.

But it's not really up to us... and we know that. We authors have so little control and that's one of the hardest parts. All we can do is tell the stories we choose to tell and the readers do the rest. And it's frustrating as hell sometimes (lots of times). It's heartbreaking. It's gut-wrenching. It's confusing. We look at our sales dashboards and literally have to stop ourselves from crying because we don't understand how things could have changed SO drastically SO quickly. Low sales = low money = can't pay bills.

So we struggle with the whole "what comes next?" Especially when we have kids to take care of and bills to pay. And while I'd never tell anyone what to do with their life or their business, it breaks my heart a little when I see people who I know who are writing for the right reasons, thinking about giving it all up. It's the get rich quick schemer's who should f'n leave this business. Not the one's who are writing because their hearts refuse to let them do anything else.

The absolute bottom line for me is....
I don't want to quit.
I don't want to give up.
I don't want to stop.

And that is so different than how I felt when I worked for someone else. I couldn't wait to get out of there. I wanted to leave.

But this?

I don't want out. Because even through all the absolute shit, I still feel that fire in my gut. It still burns inside of me and I'll be damned if I let it burn out. Because the only one who can allow that fire to die, is me. And I feel like I JUST FOUND YOU, FIRE!!!  I JUST REALIZED YOU EXISTED!! I'm not ready to give you up!

But it sure as shit helps when you all buy my books. :)

SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!

A new book is here!

Like, out now!

Like, right!  this!  second!  :)

Heartless-1
I had a dream not too long ago about this couple... I woke up and have been writing their story ever since. It's my first time writing a Serial and to be honest- I had a TON of fun with it.  Serials are so different from regular, full length novels. Everything happens SO fast in them-  you meet fast, fall in love fast, fight fast, make up fast, etc! They are like romance stories on crack!  lol  But that made it fun for me (not to mention challenging at times).

This story is broken into 3 Episodes.  Episode 1 is out today!  The next 2 will release the following 2 Monday's.  Fun, right?!

As of right now, Heartless Episode #1 is only live on Amazon.  The rest of the retailers should catch up soon.

But for you kindle people- here you go!

Remembering Sal Calabro & Leah Oliver- A 9/11 Remembrance

This is long.
But worth reading.
Because these 2 people were amazing, beautiful and kind souls and it means a lot to me if you'd take the time to read about them.

WTC When I went to New York this past July for my book signing, I visited the WTC Memorial and searched for both Sal and Leah's names. I felt connected to them, having written and remembering them yearly since 2006.

I had to see their names.

LeahWTC
I had to touch their etchings.
SalWTC
I had to cry for them.
And I did.

I'd like you to introduce you to Sal Calabro.

Sal was 38 years old and just finishing his shift when the attack began on the WTC in new york city. he cancelled plans he had just made with a friend to work out, turned his car around and headed back to the firehouse. Once there, he jumped on his firetruck heading towards the destruction. That's just the kind of man he was. He didn't run from chaos.. he ran to it... to help ease it. Sal had been part of Ladder 101 for 14 years, since he first started working as a fireman. That firehouse was a second home to him. All of his co-workers, brothers. The entire Ladder Company was lost that day. 7 guys just vanished into the rubble; to never be heard from or seen again. The group of guys from that ladder company are now referred to as the "Seven in Heaven." Sal was one of them.

A proud American, you could often find Sal watching specials about World War II and the Vietnam War on the History Channel. Growing up with his older brother, they would often fight about who would get to go to war (if there was one) and who would stay home with their single mother. It seemed that the only time Sal questioned defending the nation, was when his mom was involved. When she passed away, he got his only tattoo on his left shoulder, in her memory.

Like most firefighters, Sal loved his job. But he loved his family more. His greatest joy in life was watching his 2 young sons grow up. He coached the T-Ball team, and when he couldn't be there, he would call his wife multiple times daily to see how they were doing and what they were up to.
"He was an unbelievable dad," Mrs. Calabro said. "I can't explain it. My kids would always look for him before they would look for me. When they got hurt, they wanted their daddy."Sal and his wife met as teenagers in a grocery store where they both worked. They'd been together ever since and were married on September 16, 1989.

Sal was a beloved firefighter. His catch phrase was "You're the best!" Whenever he would say it, people would respond back with, "No Sal, you're the best!"
"The guys on the job loved him," Mrs. Calabro said. "Since he was there for 14 years, they called the firehouse 'Sal's House.' They said he was the heart and soul of Ladder 101."

Now the "heart and soul" of Ladder 101 only exists in memories, on memorial walls, in framed photographs, and in the hearts and soul of those he touched and loved. The man who once described heroes as "people who knowingly and willingly enter a peril situation and lay down their lives for other people" has become just that. A hero by his own definition. And mine as well.
Rest In Peace Salvatore Calabro. And thank you for letting me get to know a true hero.
this website has a lot of information about the Seven in Heaven and is where i found the majority of my information and pictures about Sal.

A Conversation With Sal
Often I dream of a conversation with you.
I tell you I love you, and wish 9/11 wasn't true.
What the hell did happen?
Do you believe it yourself?
I'm still in shock, and don't know what to do with myself.
You needed to know about history and war,
Did you know you'd be part of such violence and gore?
What would you say? Are you OK where you are?
You remain in my heart, and are never too far.
I hope you have everything you didn't have in this life.
I hope you forgive me for my shortcomings as a wife?
The world has gone crazy. Nothing is the same.
I want to keep you alive -- let everyone know your name!
Sal Calabro -- my husband, a father, a hero he is.
The flag now in vogue was a fashion statement of his.
In my sleep we do visit. No words do I hear.
I understand you are with me -- your smile says don't fear.
People think I am crazy, your signs I do see.
Moths, numbers and birds are messages for me.
Help me and guide me in raising our boys.
They need to remember you and all of the joys.
Their lives are filled with sadness. You were their best friend.
Please protect and guide them 'til the very end.
We have all changed. Life isn't the same any more.
I hope you will meet me when I come through that door.
Until then I'll always love you!
Keep letting me know that you are here.
And I will let you be remembered --my love and my dear.

The father of two is remembered in this letter written by his wife, Francine.

And now i'd like to introduce you to Leah Oliver.

The first thing I noticed about Leah was that we shared the same birthday. September 12th... the day after "the day." I stopped for a moment before I read any further about her to just kind of appreciate the randomness (and not so randomness) of it all. What was the likelihood that the person I would get to write about would share the same birthday as me?

The more I read about Leah, the more I found myself smiling and thinking that we would have totally been friends. Everyone said the same things about her. How warm she was... her amazing smile.. she made everyone feel welcome.. she was always positive and smiling and happy. Everyone who knew her talked about how much they loved her and her laugh. What a great way to be remembered.... always happy. I can only hope to be so lucky.

Leah Oliver

I don't think you'd guess by this gorgeous picture of her, but she loved to go on motorcycle rides with her dad. A passion that they shared with one another. There is a memorial page up for Leah where her father has written the sweetest most heartbreaking letter to his only daughter. the following is part of what he wrote:

"Life is about not knowing. Surely the last few weeks have proved that to all of us. But bringing Leah into this world is one thing I know for certain I’ve done absolutely right in my life. I love all my children equally, and I’m equally proud of each of them. Leah was just that little bit special because she was my first. As oldest children often do, Leah marched through life with a sense of purpose, determined to be successful. And she exceeded my expectations all along the way."

Leah grew up in Dartmouth, Massachusetts and went to college at Columbia university. it seems like Leah's life was just getting started. She had a new boyfriend (in an old friend) and had recently started working at Marsh & McLennan in the world trade center. She couldn't wait to show her mom the view from the 96th floor.
The 96th floor.
I guess you can only imagine how and why she didn't make it out that day. She loved her co-workers and felt like she had the job of her dreams. Things were falling into place for this 24 year old.

24.

Never to turn 25 because the following day would not come for her.

She left behind so many family members who miss her. A boyfriend who has had to move on without her when he thought he was going to spend the rest of his life with her. It's hard for me to write about someone who was so young and whose life was just getting started. Because you read about the person they were and you want so much more for them. You know how much they could have had and then you get angry that all of that was taken away. Imagine how I'd feel if I had the pleasure to actually know Leah in real life??

September 11th still hurts. Sometimes I think I'm ready to deal with certain aspects of it. Like a TV special about 9/11 will be on and I'll record it so that I can watch it later at my own pace. But then I'll go to turn it on, and within the first 30 seconds, I'm already in tears and I can't take it. I'm not ready. It's still too raw. And it's been 8 years. and I didn't even know anyone who lost their life that day personally. (i know people who knew people) It wasn't right. It wasn't fair. And it breaks my heart to know how much my life has changed since that day, and I wasn't even directly affected. So many other people have had to live each day since without their loved ones in their life. And all I can say is that I'm sorry. I'm so sorry that Sal's boys have had to grow up with only a memory for a father. I'm so sorry that Leah's family has to go on without her. I'm sorry she never got to have her 25th birthday. but I can promise you that I will forever think of her on our day from here on out.

there is a scholarship set up in her name... there are tributes to her where you can read more about her. I wish I could have known her.. but I'm glad this project introduced me to her. And now to you.

I just got back from a signing in New York and i'm literally kicking myself because... IT WAS NEW YORK!  AND JACK & CASSIE LIVED IN NEW YORK!  AND THE METS ARE THERE!  AND... I should have planned something for the readers in New York and we should have done something fun!

But I didn't.

Because i'm dumb.

UGH!

So, I guess that just means i'll have to come back and do something cool with y'all there.  :)

The next signing is in ATLANTA next month! It's nowhere near at capacity, so if you're in the area, or not far away- COME SEE ME!

Here is the link to all the details:

Breaking Stars Teaser

Just a quick note to let you all know that I'm in the cave working on finishing up my latest book, Breaking Stars.  This book follows Paige Lockwood's story. We met Paige in Seeing Stars-  she's one of the top client's to Madison's horrible ex-boss.  Remember her now? The actress who was at Walker's concert.  :)

I'm loving where the story is heading and I'm having a lot of fun getting to know Paige and Tatum.  I hope you all love it as much as I do.
For now, a little Tatum teaser.  Rahr  :)

I am so sorry to announce

That I will no longer be able to attend Book Bash in Florida this June.  :(

I truly hate pulling out of events that i've committed too. I feel awful about it, but sometimes these events are hard to plan for. We tend to commit to them sometimes a year in advance, and there's just no saying what will be going on in our lives when it finally comes around.  I try my best to accommodate and make sure that I can attend everything i've said I will attend, but sometimes I simply can't.

This is one of those times.

My son has a baseball tournament that weekend, I'm under huge writing deadlines and if I'm not writing, then i'm not putting out any new books. And if i'm not putting out any new books, then it's really hard for me to make a living as a writer. As much as I love these signings (and trust me, I do)- I find it very hard to find the time to plan for them, and write effectively.  It's a fine line and the balance sometimes eludes me.

Anyway, I'm sorry that I won't be there.  So, so sorry.

BUT, I am working on putting up a page where you can order signed books from me and that will go live on this site in the next few weeks *fingers crossed*... I know it doesn't make up for it, but it maybe helps?

I hope you understand and I know you'll still have a great time. There are so many wonderful authors attending and the event itself is truly awesome. Have a great time, and i'm sorry to miss you!

The Perfect Game, Chapter 11

AKA, "The Chapter Where Cassie Gets Mugged Seemingly Out of Nowhere And You're All Left Wondering WHY?"

PS- If you haven't read TPG yet, this is sorta spoilery, so... consider yourself warned.

PSS- Also, if you haven't read it yet... what the hell are you waiting for?

PPSS- I mean, this is Jack F'n Carter we're talking about here. GET ON THAT TRAIN! CHOO CHOO!

Moving on...

I get a lot of grief over Chapter 11 in The Perfect Game.  A lot of people want to know WHY on earth I wrote that scene into the book. They don't understand what the point of it was... why did I even put it in there?

And a lot of people really dislike it. They think it was pointless, out of place, random, weird, totally unrealistic, unbelievable, etc.

I should have written this blog post a long time ago, but i'm writing it now. I want to talk a little about that scene and why I included it into Jack & Cassie's story.

I realize that to the reader, that scene probably came out of nowhere. Most of you read it, scratched your head and wondered wtf just happened and why?!

I know how random the whole thing seemed. But you have to understand, that when it happened to me, it was just as random. The guy came out of nowhere and beat the living shit out of me as the guys I were with scattered. The only difference between what happened to me and what happened to Cassie was, I wasn't carrying a camera. That person didn't rob me of anything that night (except maybe my naive sense of security when you're that close to campus and surrounded by athletes).

When he first hit me, I was completely shocked. I literally stood there, whipped my head back at him and stared like, "you did not just hit me." So for good measure, he did it again. I remember that I did not get angry. I didn't scream, shout, cry, or say anything. And it never even once fucking occurred to me to fight back. I'm not kidding. My brain filled with stupid things like, "this is not happening. he is not hitting me right now. why is he hitting me?  why won't he stop?  this really fucking hurts. my god, stop hitting me already."

And the fact that I reacted like that, pissed me off. I mean, later, it pissed me off. Because if you know anything about me, you'd probably bet money that I'd fight back- or get angry immediately and defend myself from the crazy. I wouldn't just sit there and let some random dude beat the piss out of my face.
But I did.
And I hate that.
Instead of reacting while it happened, I went into a state of shock. I didn't act out, I simply tried to cover my head while living in the land of disbelief. It's annoying, really and I'm a little embarrassed if you want to know the truth. Because I want to be way more bad ass than that.  lol

Anyway, the guy was never caught, never arrested, never seen again by my eyes (not that I would have recognized him anyway). When the cops asked me if i could identify him, I did tell them that I could recognize his fist and that was about it. The parts of that scene were written from my memory as vividly as I could recall. The 40-ounce bottle breaking over someone's head and shattering as he fell to the ground, really happened as well. My hair sticking to my eyelashes and lipstick... God, I remember that I actually put hairspray in my hair that day (and I NEVER use hairspray), so it kept sticking to my face everytime he hit me. It would block my view. It's weird the little details and things that you associate with events.

So, yes... it was a seemingly random part of the story.  But then again, it wasn't. When I was reliving some of my college experience and my past to write this book, I knew I needed to include this piece of my story in Jack & Cassie's. I added the fictional parts to help make it more... believable? Or to give some context to Jack being so over-protective, him being able to buy her a new camera (keeping his promise and caring about her future goals) and being so angry at his teammates (and then being able to forgive them as well).

The Perfect Game, in essence, is a story about forgiveness.

I hope this sheds some new light on that chapter for you. Even though it's still sort of random in its placement, you see now that I think life is sort of random... shit happens when you least expect it and that's just the way it is. I write from my heart and pieces of me are in every story I tell. I never want that to change.

Thank you for reading.

xox,
Jenn

I'm so bad

at blogging lately! :/

Hell, maybe i've always been bad at it. lol  I think when baseball season rolls around, my energy gets zapped. I love watching the boy play ball, but it gets intense and since he doesn't have his drivers license yet, i'm still the mom-taxi and I get to drive him around everywhere!  Yay me!  But it makes it hard for me to schedule my time. 3 years into writing and I still can't schedule / plan anything. lol

My first Texas signing was a blast!  Texas, you're pretty cool. I liked you.

Next up is Washington DC, with a lineup that is pretty freaking spectacular if you ask me!

What Readers are Saying!

Have you heard what people are saying about Seeing Stars?

"This was such a fun and sweet read. I tore right through it, smiling to myself the whole time."

"I loved this story so very much. What a swoon worthy, heart stopping, sweet, and emotional love story. Walker is so hot and sexy. I love how strong and feisty Madison is also. These two are so great together."

"A standalone book in a series of stars. I loved every moment. It's a short read that touches home with everyone's want of a fairy tale romance. I have read so many books lately that are darker and have so many tear your hair moments that this was extremely refreshing! Everything about this book kept me glued."

"It was extremely refreshing to read a light and airy story that still had substance!"

and

"J. Sterling has become one of my all-time favorite authors! I loved the Game Series, and the Celebrity Series already has me just as captivated! I read the book straight through, which is my ultimate benchmark. The next book cannot come fast enough... "

Thank you so much for the reviews and for enjoying the story exactly the way I meant for it to be enjoyed. You have no idea how happy it makes me when you all love what I do.  :)

Teaser Excerpt
Walker sat on one of the stage steps, his chin in his hand as he spoke to the screaming crowd. “I need a volunteer for this next part.” His head raised slowly, his eyes scanning the crowd.
Keri jumped up and down like a crazy person, waving her arms and screaming his name. I laughed at her antics and sat perfectly still, not wanting to bring any more unwanted attention to myself.
Another tap on my shoulder caused my irritation to bubble as I turned to what was sure to be that annoying overly made-up stupid girl again.
It wasn’t.
I came face-to-face with a giant of a man wearing all black and holding a walkie-talkie. Intimidated, I took a half step back and looked around for Keri.
“Come with me.” His tone implied a demand, not a request, and I suddenly wondered what I’d done wrong.
Who the hell was this guy? He’s not the boss of me. He’s not going to tell me to come with him and think I’ll just obey. I frowned and said quickly, “Uh. No, thanks.”
He flashed his VIP backstage pass in my face as if it were the only credential he needed. “Miss. It’s part of the show. Can you come with me, please? You’ll be onstage with Mr. Rhodes.”
Oh.
Well, shit.
I guess he could be the boss of me, after all.
I shot Keri a surprised look before I was quickly hauled off in the direction of an almost completely darkened backstage area. We walked through a black curtain before we were hit with lights and blaring music.
“I’m going to bring you onstage.”
“And then what?” I asked, suddenly nervous. Not to be around Walker Rhodes, but nervous at the thought of standing in front of thousands of screaming people with cell phones ready to record my every move.
I started to tremble. Afraid my legs wouldn’t hold me up any longer, I begged the security guy to help me out there. He smiled at me and gave me a little shove.
Thanks, you dick.
Next thing I knew, I was standing onstage, my face mere inches from Walker’s. Walker no-human-being-should-be-anywhere-near-this-gorgeous-in-real-life Rhodes.

Seeing Stars TEASER

Seeing Stars is the title of my upcoming book. It's a novella (around 40k words) and is a stand alone meant to introduce you into a Celebrity filled world. You'll meet characters in this book that we will read about in the other books to come.

Seeing Stars focuses on Madison Myers, a girl who works in one of the biggest talent agencies in Los Angeles and Walker Rhodes, one of today's hottest singers.  :)  Here's a sneak peak of it.  This scene takes place during one of Walker's concerts.

I hope you enjoy it and I hope you're excited to read it!

A tap on my shoulder interrupted my reverie and I turned in that direction, only to be faced with a twenty-something-year-old girl wearing next to nothing. “Do you know him?” she asked, her clearly collagen-plumped lips puckered like she just ate something sour.

“What?” I yelled at her over the screaming surrounding us. Taking in her tiny, barely clothed frame and the ridiculous amount of makeup painted on her face, I stopped myself from rolling my eyes.

“Do you know him? Why was he talking to you? Why does he keep staring at you?” The girl’s voice was irritated and bitchy. Clearly, she hadn’t dressed this way to not be noticed by Walker.

“I don’t know him, sorry,” I answered politely before turning away from her.

I was still rattled by my interaction with Walker. Why had he focused so much of his attention on me? Breaking myself out of my own head, I glanced back toward the stage, my eyes searching for him.
